Well I'm using the MX7 free developers edition, since the Hosting I use has Coldfusion MX7 that's all I need. I'm switching to 8 prob next month.
Believe me man, I was mad confused too, I bought books on PHP and couldn't get anything right, then I downloaded Lynda's CF8 Tutorial, and showed me how easy it was to use CF, I recommend you getting that also. Plus the people in this community will help you a lot!
