You mean that the \uXXXX is designed to work on UTF-16 strings?

Hmmm... there's a thought... I wonder if I can recreate that condition by 
prepopulating a textarea with CF and making sure the form scope is cast to 
UTF-8.

Hmmm... in which case this probably came from a line-break in FileMaker... I 
know their db was FileMaker at one point a long time ago (thankfully before my 
time), but it didn't occur to me that FM might be the source for this. How does 
filemaker store a v-tab within a cell?
