Nevermind. Looks like my post didn't even get distributed before I solved
my own problem. After double checking the registry permission changes
suggested in the Defusion article, everything clicked into place.
CFCOLLECTION and CFFILE now can do operations on UNC shares. Dunno how
efficient that will be, but it works...
My head hurts.

I'm attempting to share a centrally located set of Verity collections among
several CF servers in a cluster. The people in the next office have asked
me to stop beating on the wall with my head. Here's the problem...
Step one: Running CF under a specific account:
After reading an allaire KB article about this
(http://www.allaire.com/Handlers/index.cfm?ID=11859&Method=Full) I've gotten
through step one just fine. Both the CF Service and the CF Exec Service are
running just fine as a NT Domain User account I set up, everything in my app
is working just fine under this setup with the exception of the
following.....
Step two: Sharing the centrally located Verity Collections:
Can't get this to work right. I have created a share on the central server,
and have given the NT Domain User account "Full Control" on that share.
When I try to create an index from the CF machine on that UNC share using
the CFCOLLECTION tag, I get the error: "Unable to create the collection
directory, "\\machinename\sharename\collectionname". Access is denied."
Note: This is about where I started banging my head against the wall
However, if I switch the share's permissions to "Everyone/Full Control" the
collection gets created just fine. This seems to indicate that some service
(other than the CF Server or CF Exec) needs "Full Control" of this UNC
share. I think to myself, what service creates the collection? CF right?
So why isn't it working?
I've also checked out the Defusion tutorial about this topic
(http://www.defusion.com/articles/index.cfm?ArticleID=89), but it hasn't
helped.
Anyone have any brilliant ideas? I know it's been done before....
Thanks!
