The lesson learned was never ever trust the recent files list in Access...
see if two files have the same name it overwrites the shortcut on the recent
file list... so like if you open one out of a zip archive it overwrites the
others... so what was

the shortcut to c:\websites\projects\community\db.mdb

was replaced with a shortcut to c:\windows\temp\db.mdb...

and all the shortcut said was c:\.....\db.mdb...

Yuck, I feel stupid...
