Hey folks, I found out the problem was that someone on staff had put an
incorrect path to the JVM. When we restarted the server and CF saw the error
it stopped itself. there is an article in Allaire on it. thanks folks!!

This could be a couple of things.
1) It could be that there is a problem with starting the service because of
any parameters you may have added :
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q136/7/11.asp
2) It could be permissions related as it is in this article about SQL server
:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/sql/content/setup/setup12.asp?PR=CHS&T1
=7d&FR=0&A=T&T=B&S=F&
3) It could be that you have Netegrity's Web Agent on the same machine as CF
Ent with Advanced Security installed :
http://www.allaire.com/Handlers/index.cfm?ID=19572&Method=Full
Amazing what you find when you do a search on "error 2140" in the MS and
Allaire (sorry.. Macromedia) knowledge bases. ;o)
Incidently, if you're running SP6, you really should upgrade to 6a. I can't
remember why, but apparently you should.
Regards
Stephen
