We had the same problem. Everything Allaire has on clustering is geared
towards serving one domain across the cluster and spending hours on the
phone with both US and UK Allaire professionals didn't help a lot. I
even tried sitting down with one of the at last year's DevCon in
Washington.
Even though it doesn't give us the same detail level as Cluster Cats
when it comes to CF clustering, we have been using Windows 2000
clustering in production the past six months (after a year of trying
this, that and the other...). We have all the ColdFusion and SiteMinder
services registered in the cluster administrator, as well as shared
disks (Hitatchi storage cabinet), physical disks, IP addresses and the
web server. If any of these fail, another server picks up all the
domains.
Our primary goal, fail-over, was reached and we hope to achieve load
balancing further down the line as well. Maintaining state through a
server switch is also impossible with this setup.
I'm still waiting for the final documentation on all the specifics in
this setup from my system administrator, but this is the basic overview.
Unfortunately for you the documentation will be in Norwegian, so passing
it on would be of no use. I'll try to answer any questions sent to the
list, though.
