Mark,

Are you running those multiple queries each time a
person requests a page (ie in the application.cfm)?

If so, you may want to try a cftransaction tag around
them and use some cftry/cfcatch blocks to see where
things could be getting haywired.

Other than that, I would start looking at what
processes exactly are running out of control and
taking up your processor time. I have an NT box that
periodically goes crazy with CF4.5 on it, since it's
not a production machine I just cycle the service and
that takes care of it.
