This problem sounds a lot like file corruption of some kind. First do a check disk with the /r option and see if that will repair the file structure. If that does not solve the problem, then a restore from the most recent backup might be in order.

For the last two days it has decided to stop allowing outbound connections over at least HTTP,HTTP and FTP. When pinging the outside world from the webserver this works okay. But opening web browser on the server does not return a page. The problem is that our payment processing engine which securely posts data to a remote server is also failing!! Rebooting the server DOES fix the problem. I have unplugged our firewall and the problem persists leading me to believe the firewall is not the culprit. Has any one seen anything like this before??? I am at a loss....
