This problem sounds a lot like file corruption of some kind.   First do a
check disk with the /r option and see if that will repair the file
structure.  If that does not solve the problem, then a restore from the most
recent backup might be in order.

Subject: IIS, NT4.0 and failed outbound connections


Our NT box is exhibiting strange behavior! For the last two days it has
decided to stop allowing outbound connections over at least HTTP,HTTP and
FTP. When pinging the outside world from the webserver this works okay.

But opening web browser on the server does not return a page. The problem
is that our payment processing engine which securely posts data to a remote
server is also failing!! Rebooting the server DOES fix the problem. I have
unplugged our firewall and the problem persists leading me to believe the
firewall is not the culprit.

Has any one seen anything like this before??? I am at a loss....
