Ghost makes an image of the HD, so think about this for a minute! If I
use ghost or any other software to make an image of the HD, then if a
file was open or being written too. The moment that it took the snapshot
of the HD, would be the state of the machine.

Now if it took a snapshot of the HD while writing the registry, or cache
or even a file. That part would be corrupted because the image would
have moved onto the next sect/cluster of the HD and missed the rest of
the information.

It would be advised to close down everything when making an image of the
HD:-)

Ghost backs up everything... it makes a complete mirror of the system.
Not
sure about that "Open" files comment tho... I'm gathering you're asking
if
it can ghost something while a file is being written to (such as an
access
file)...?
