I need more info then.

What version of CF are you using?  CF5 or 6?       Enterprise or Professional?  CF for J2EE edition or not?

Then, look in your cf admin.  Does it have a setting enabled that says something like this "Restart coldfusion server after X unresponsive requests".    If you can find that.  Is it enabled?

I am also having similar problems with one of our production servers.

1. We are using oracle, but what could oracle have to do with it?
2. How do you know exactly when the CF Server goes down? Usually we find out after the fact when our users email to complain. But we need info on the minute it happens to be able to look at the logs

thanks for any insight

  Two things to check:
  1.  Is the site using oracle by any chance?
  2.  Have you looked at the web server logs to identify the pages that are being requested about the same time that the CF Server is going down?

The only time I saw something like this happen was when someone got
"brave" and overclocked the CPU on the server.  This caused CF (jrun) to
restarted all the time.  When the CPU was brought back down to normal,
CF stayed as solid as a rock.

Hello All, new member here.  I have been pulling my hair out for 2
months over this one, searching all message boards, googling, buying
  books, etc.

Here is the issue, we run quite a few sites on our server at work, about
50 is a good guess.  All of a sudden one day (when a new site went live)
we have since that day been getting regularly 6-8 cold fusion restarts a
day.  Since we use session variables and they all go bye bye, our
clients have been pissed for 2 months.

We have tried EVERYTHING, we have reinstalled CF.  We have locked all
session variables, fixed all ODBC and CF errors, run virus and memory
scans, updated to latest bug fixes, everything that google may bring up
in the first 1000 sites we probably have done.

The problem is its just as bad.  This one site that just went up though
uses a proxy server, and the site is the homepage for the entire entity.
So when a lab gets used, everyone on the lab is hitting our site
constantly everytime they open an IE window.   My question to you guys
  are:

  1)  Would 1/2 finished pages possibly raise unreturned thread count to
restart the cf service?  Our thinking is that possibly these people are
not waiting for their homepage to finish before going off to internet
land, as our log files seem to attest to.

  2)  Can a screwed up proxy server cause memory problems with CF.  If
they are caching cookies or something, could that possibly screw up the
  server?

  Any ideas ?

  Almost hopeless
