Mike,

What specific reason are you trying to move the DB to a different
server?  The only thing this will give you is the ability to use the hard
drive of the other system.  All of the processing will still be done by the
web server.  With the exception of disk access and network traffic.  If you
are trying to offload the Database work to a different machine.  Then you
need to use a different DB type.  You can upsize the access DB to MSDE or
SQL Server and then offload this work.

Thanks Ricki for the reply. I just tried the oleDb jet driver but no
action there either. Checking the cf-talk archive I found a few instances
where people got it to work (fiddling with accounts/ownerships/etc.) but
eventually ended up ditching remote Access access (i think that's clear :)
So now's the time for a little asp scripting.

Thank, Mike

PS If anyone does know of a surefire way to make this work you would
definitely make my day!

I was under the impression that the only way an ODBC connection could be
made to an access DB was if the Access DB was on the same machine as
where you were trying to make the connection ? I have tried to connect
to DBs on a mapped drive and that was not even good enough

Sorry,

Ricki

Subject: MS Access Datasource

Hello,

I am trying to setup an Access ODBC datasource (dsn) on a server other
than my CF 5.0 Professional Edition application server. I have tried to
connect via a mapped drive (e.g. p:\databases\...) as well as a UNC
\\server-name\share-name\... Neither work.

I can copy the .mdb file to my CF 5 app server, set up a new datasource
name and all is well, but then again, this sort of defeats the
purpose...

So, here are a couple of thoughts/questions at the moment:

The app server lives in a domain controlled by the IT group (domain =
IT_apps_etc...); The database to which I am trying to connect lives in a

domain controlled by the software group (domain = rocksoft_etc)

I have tried swapping the owner of the CF service from LocalSystem to my

own account on the app server but no luck there either... generally
trying
to follow the instructions in the CF 5 help - connecting datasources
documentation.

Any input appreciated,

Mike
