or somesuch nonsense; I can never remember). It's a couple hundred bucks,
but it'll monitor any port on any URL you want, and sends E-mail, pages,
whatever. I just run it on a separate server at a friend's place.
If you want a service, I recommend InternetSeer. They're not the BEST, but
you can get the service for free if you sign up for their advertising. If
you don't like that, it's like $99 a year or something similar. I've
noticed that they occasionally lag behind, which is why I went out and
bought ServerWarden.
I know there are open source ones too, although I've never used them. Also,
check out webmin for Linux -- if I remember right, it offers a ping tool.
Sorry about being vague/loose on some of these -- it should be enough to get
