Jim,

I think 2gb of ram should be sufficient in your new setup if you are happy
with your current setup using 1gb of ram. Just make sure you buy 1gb+
modules so you don't fill up your motherboard and run out of expansion. You
never know when you might need more ram and smaller mem modules although a
little cheaper, will cost you more in the long run if you need to expand.
Also purchase your mem modules from a retail/internet outlet instead of
including it with the system (get minimum amount). The difference in price
can be 4-10 times as much and buy quality memory, not the cheapest. There
are a lot of variables when it comes to specing (is that a word?) out new
hardware, but that's another topic in itself.

As for where to spend your budget I'll rate them in the following order, 1
being best.

1 = CPU cache
2 = CPU speed
3 = SCSI drives

Thanks,

- Buddy

I'm looking at purchasing some servers to run Win2k3/IIS6 and CFMX 6.1.
Our current Win2k/IIS5/CF5 servers run comfortably in 1 MB of RAM. Should
2 MB of RAM on the new servers be sufficient for the new OS and CF version
given the same web sites, applications and traffic levels?

Given a fixed budget, where is it best to spend money in regard to disk
system speed vs. CPU speed and CPU cache for a Win2k3/CFMX system? 10k vs.
15k SCSI drives, 2.4 GHz dual Xeons vs. 3.0 GHz Xeons, 512 KB CPU cache vs.
1 MB?
