True.  However, I've been doing this about as long as you, and frankly
experience shows that using the inbuilt server and choosing not to learn how and
why your production-level web server does (or doesn't do) certain things is lazy
on the part of a developer.  Additionally, nobody's going to deploy on the
inbuilt server, so the sooner the apps are tested, and indeed developed on the
ultimate deployment framework the better.

I fully expect the apps developers who work for me to understand the
installation and configuration of both Apache and IIS (which are what we use).
Along with any other software such as DBs which might affect how we work.  Fact
is, they might be the only ones who understand enough of how it all hangs
together to diagnose an issue.
