Actually, one reason that it wasn't worthwhile to install a separate webserver is that I only needed the install so I could run the code analyzer against a codebase. I'd never be able to test the sites in question from my laptop anyway. The install was intended to be disposable. Of course, I'd love to emulate production, but I don't have a spare Oracle license and a spare cluster of Solaris 8 machines running iPlanet. Especially on my XP laptop. Imagine that. ;)
The implication that I need to use a different webserver to get familiar with the way that webservers work assumes that I don't know how webservers work and that I made the choice to use the built-in server for no reason at all, neither of which are the case. Those things should never have been assumed. In fact, the error that I reported is that a CF config file directory didn't unpack, which has nothing to do with my choice of webservers. I would think that someone so versed in webservers should have been able to realize that my choice of webservers was NOT my problem. Frankly, how I make my choice of webservers isn't anyone's business. I shouldn't have to publicly detail my reasons for picking the webserver that I did just to get someone to stop "trying to help" by assuming that I'm lazy and/or I don't know what the heck I'm doing. I tried installing from disc to a different XP machine. That install worked and the code analyzer told me what I needed to know. If I need to install to my laptop again I'll just do it from disc. The problem seems to be either a problem in the build or a corrupt download. Douglas, the problems that you are talking about are probably that people are running SP2 with the internal firewall turned on. That does cause problems connecting to ColdFusion once it's installed but it shouldn't cause the installation to fail. My internal firewall wasn't turned on because I was already on a secured network. Thanks for the suggestion though. And thanks Dave for having my back. :) PS. There is at least one site deployed on the built-in webserver. I think it's safe to say that there are more, but they'd have to be under a different license. No wonder this list is so small. -- "I must remember to honor the power of the off switch."
