Lol, until the server is patched it's moot, we now know that it's not and
the fix is for a 500 error, it's a no brainer it should be patched first.

simple test may help confirm some of this, eh?  Create a HTML page
with a upload control.  Have the form post to itself.  This way your
upload only involves IIS.
