I know this was the thought a few years ago but I wonder how relevant this is today - considering the performance of today's hardware... I just upgraded our servers to the latest Dell hardware (I have CF and SQL split on two boxes) but I look at the boxes and they aren't even breaking a sweat performance wise... It would be interesting to benchmark some of these configurations to see the numbers...
