It depends on the host.  Godaddy is not the most knowledgable CF host 
out there, but one does tend to get what one pays for with CF hosts).  
With some hosts you have internet portals where you can control basic 
aspects of your CF site such as creating DSNs, ect.  Others you would 
make routine customer support requests to have them do this for you.  
GoDaddy has a portal, but you are basically on your own learning and 
using it.  The initial customer support has no knowledge of the 
ColdFusion aspects of their products.  If you press, they will transfer 
you up to a CF technician and then one tends to get better information.

I use Go Daddy for my personal site and have figured their system out 
sufficiently for that purpose.  But for my real personal project I go 
with cf dynamics, I find them much more knowledgeable and helpful, but 
then it costs 5x the price.  ($25/month vs $5/month).
