These weren't message, I actually asked him the question personally at a
developer conference we had a couple of months ago.
Chris Evans mentioned earlier something about if only the CF app was going
to be accessing and updating the data, then it would be fine to use UUID's,
but if the database was ever going to be modified by anything/anyone else
then you may possibly have problems. This was Ben's comment, but for the
life of me I can't remember the exact reason. The upshot of it was to use
Identity columns, and the database, as much as possible. There is no doubt
that using the database to do as much work as possible makes a huge
improvement in the performance of your web site, regardless of the tools
used to extract data, ie, ASP, CF etc.
There's also the issue of maintenance, for example, using stored procedures
means that if you have a common query, you only need to modify one stored
procedure as opposed to several different CFQUERY tags.
I have a lot of notes from the conference regarding tips and tricks for
performance of CF apps, I'll write them up and maybe post them to the
mailing list (or a web site) sometime for anyone that might be interested.
