I remember reading this thread a while ago, both in the Kojak Beta Forum and here, but I finally buckled down and picked up DWMX, and I don't remember if you can create keyboard shortcuts for tags.
The most I can dig up is CTRL-E for the Insert->Tag window, but in Studio 4.5.2, I have a bunch of hotkeys for <cfoutput>, <cfquery>, etc VTM windows. Can you do this>? (My damned memory is fading!)
