Thanks. I'm still adding to it but it's almost done. The old archives were a stopgap measure and the data from them was deleted when it was moved over to the new system. As is, it was stressing access waaaay past the breaking point. It was about 600 meg in size and started to throw memory problems on the machine. No chance of it coming back. To bring this to a technical point, Access 97 can handle 600 meg files a lot better than access 2000 but neither should be used for that much data.
