Yes.  Dail-up is slooooooow.  If you can, get DSL or faster.

Use the Client Network Utiltiy under SQL 7
Create a server using TCP/IP library
Add the server's ip address and port (1433)
Register the new server in Enterprise Manager.
Piece of cake.
