Offhand, I usually see performance increases up to a factor of ten (that is, if a search took 400 ms with VDK, it might take 40 ms). That's with K2 running on the same server, with relatively small collections. I haven't ever changed the INI file settings beyond the minimum necessary to register a new collection.
