but you can't make a blanket statement like that - there are probably tons 
of part-time software companies out there.

I can certainly imagine making a small piece of software that has a ton of 
utility, that doesn't tax a whole bunch of resources to support. Things like 
an adobe acrobet plugin, a post script utility, set of specialize excel 
spreadsheets, formula packs for excel, and most certainly web application 
software.

I agree with some of what you say, but disgree with its totality.

You can certainly build a business while working under the security of a 
paid income - and depending on what you are doing you are better off doing 
that. Why bleed?

But this thread is about a software company. If you read back, he wants
to sell of a software product. Being a one man show part time or full
time doesn't really work with a software company.
