I set up a cluster recently using a Cisco Local Director in front of two CF50 boxes, that went well. We did not use Cluster Cats but the high availability server settings in CF50 under the Tools-System Monitoring section of CFAdmin. Local Director has the best communication-feedback methodology with CF using DFP. I know Macromedia has done testing with Cisco-Arrowpoint but it is not as well developed as the Local Director. So if you will use a Hardware device go with Local Director that is the best available for CF Clustering. Another consideration is how big will the cluster grow to. Cluster Cats does have a theoretical limit of 8 Clusters of 8 Servers (I think those numbers are accurate).
Wherever you use shared scope variable load balancing is tricky if not impossible in some cases. We moved all application vars to the request scope and all else was already in the client scope on that particular cluster. I know in CFMX you can theoretically cluster servers and share Session vars but I have never done that. Hth. My only concern about the Arrowpoint switch is the session state. If we force sticky sessions, we could run into worse load balancing problems. 10% of users can account for 90% of the resources... That's something that a sticky connection wouldn't solve. -----Original Message----- From: Mike Brunt [mailto:mbrunt@;webapper.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 30, 2002 2:20 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: Load balancing Costas, there is a significant difference from CF50 on with regard to high availability, which version of CF will this be deployed on/in front of? I am of course on the opposite side of the fence and am in favour of ClusterCats... Someone wanna help me make an educated decision on which one would better serve us?
