> My prediction is that if the race gets close IBM will buy Sun.

Wow. Interesting call, but it definitely makes sense, looking at all the
money IBM's invested in Java.

Follow-up question for you and others (and I apologize for veering slightly
OT, but I think lots of people might be interested). I read an article on
MarketWatch.com who commented that Microsoft is looking to spend some of
their $40 billion cash reserves, and that Macromedia is a likely target
because of the potential for Flash as a viable rich front-end client. How do
you react? (For reference, here's the extremely long URL:
http://custom.marketwatch.com/custom/myway-com/news-story.asp?guid={8F49BE7D
-3FF1-4D8B-ABEA-A12346B8B714}&alias=/ht/nw)

On the surface, it sounds ludicrous because MM's spent so much time and
money moving CF to Java. But let's face it, one area where .NET would
benefit immensely is Rich UIs, i.e., Flash. I'm not sure where that would
leave CF (port to .NET, dump it altogether), but I don't think MS would
really care all that much. And, as the article briefly points out, it could
strike a major blow to Java.

Secondly, money's money. And once any offer were sufficient upped ($40
billion's a lot of TV dinners), I find it hard to believe that Burgess and
company could continue to turn their collective backs without giving it
serious thought.

Anybody have any thoughts? Not looking for flames, just trying to spark a
professional discussion based on the reality of today's market.

Regards,
Dave.
