people should really just be happy that the knowledge
you chose to share, is there for "free" for us.  i mean...come
on...simon you are an incredible helper on a coupla lists
im on, and for the love of jehovah...i think its just cool 
that you made that available for us, and no matter what 
format that its in...its still cool and accesible to 
99.9 percent of us :)

Do keep in mind that I wrote these papers as chapters to a book - the
publisher went under and I never got paid, and so I decided to post my
work
rather than have it go to waste.  The publisher wanted Word format, and
I
just posted them that way.  I will either convert them to HTML or PDF,
though.

Drop "on a Mac" and that is still a true statement. More to the point, 
my system is pretty much a Microsoft-free environment so while I *can* 
fire up OpenOffice to read the .doc file, I find it really 
inconvenient. A website should use Flash, HTML and, in a pinch, PDF - 
things for which there are free readers which integrate with a 
*variety* of browsers.
