Yeah, the PHP plugin takes quite a team to keep writing so CF would be a
chore. But one advantage of Eclipse is that IBM is solidly behind it, which
helps any open source project. The VSS plugin, the database plugin, the
easyStruts plugin, and a couple others are fantastic.

A good friend of mine speaks on the Complete Programmer "All Stuff, No
Fluff" Java conference circuit (a GREAT conference that hits most major
metro areas once or twice a year -- easily worth the $695 registration)
which has all the Java greats -- James David Duncan, Robert Martin, Dave
Thomas (of Complete Programmer fame), etc and there are only two IDEs that
those guys are using: Eclipse and IDEA's IntelliJ. IntelliJ has the edge,
but it's also about $600. Most seem to use both :) But they only program
Java -- so other langauges aren't an issue.

Eclipse has a weird UI until you "get it" -- not unlike how Adobe and
Macromedia products have their own idea about how UI works. But once you get
it, it's pretty cool. I've been working in Websphere Studio Application
Developer on and off for 2 years and Eclipse 2.0 is certainly a huge step
forward.
