The best solution is available if his registrar furnishes DNS service. Many of then do. All you would need to do then is to point to the IP of the server. If you do this, be sure the mail server (MX record) is properly entered as well.
>From experience setting up DNS on the same server as IIS, is an invitation to DNS resolution failure, depending on how reliable the connection is to the internet backbone. One of the reasons is that the DNS service receives a lot of unrelated traffic (hits) and can reduce resources available to the web server. If the client insists, then recommend two separate boxes, (primary and secondary) to handle the DNS traffic. Each DNS box must have its own unique IP number. There is a lot more in the details, and a recommended reading is the latest version of the "DNS and Bind Cookbook." ====================================== Stop spam on your domain, use our gateway! Would it not be easier to use | another hosting provider rather than have me setup DNS on his WIN2K box? I would be configuring the DNS | server on the WIN2K box and it would be my first time doing so. I would appreciate any suggestions/horror | stories you may have.
