I reinstalled and seems to be ok, but when I get a chance I am going to mess with it 
more.

I ran into something similar and posted about it here. I'm a little
fuzzy on the details now, but iirc when I created a DSN, then deleted
it, then tried to create one with the same name again, it would always
error out.
Have you tried restarting the service?
