At the risk of further annoying the list manager, a quick reply. I didn't mean just the privacy laws. I meant to include taxes, business licenses, accessibility, restricted speech laws, import laws, and who knows what else. Ya'll really don't think like we do.
Not to mention US export laws. Our 50 states are fairly similar in approach and laws. A business in one state can sell to someone in another pretty easily. For the most part, local business rules apply. An accountant can quickly explain differences so that I understand them. The same has not been true with my forrays into international sales. Although Australia has been pretty easy. FWIW Jerry Johnson >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 06/25/03 04:56PM >>> Jerry Johnson wrote: > It might have something to do with privacy laws in other countries? Not for Europe. European privacy law is very simple: whenever you collect data, you have to tell what you collect it for and then you can only use it for that purpose. > I'm just guessing but the stream of legal news out of the EU and Canada makes me > personally shy away from trying to do any business "out there". The problem is that most 'news' does not even reference the legislation in debate. If they would just provide a 'read it yourself' link to the relevant directives it would make it so much more transparent. Just read http://europa.eu.int/comm/internal_market/privacy/docs/95-46-ce/dir1995-46_part2_en.pdf article 7 and you will see that whenever you need data "for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party or at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract" the processing is legitimate. How much easier would you want it?
