Wow. Great effort. This demonstrates that you don't need a screenwide result display to get a decent look with enough text to actually eval the item. I'd maybe try and skrunch your search bar vertically a tad to try and eke out a 4th result onscreen. I'm reasonably sure you could do it by shaving space on the top and in the result sets themselves. The alternate row coloring would let you get away with more crowding than you could get otherwise. And if you chucked the concept of that pick list that space would be open for what is now your search bar.
I'd still like the option of new window or not, but if new window was the only choice then I'd go for it. Even better, for the occasional lookie-loo's who don't want to be able to review multiple items simultaneously (and imho anyone who doesn't do this has got to be only a very occasional user...
