I love MySQL, but phpMyAdmin is a piece of junk if you're used to client-server apps (eg MS Enterprise Manager). Fortunately MySQL AB released MySQL CC which is pretty cool, and there are several third party tools. The only thing I use phpMyAdmin for is kicking off a data dump when I can't ssh through the firewall from the site I'm at :)
