As you and others have found, there are a few articles out there. However,
you won't find an algorithm for determining the ideal number of simultaneous
requests. This will vary quite a bit depending on your application and its
environment. The only way I've found to determine the ideal number is by
load testing your application in its environment. This is kind of a shame,
since this often is the single tunable parameter that makes the biggest
difference in overall performance.
