ColdFusion: A Beginner's Guide is the best beginner's book out there.

Most of the other books mentioned in this thread have struck me as the
same old "general reference / tutorial" books. CF: A Beginner's Guide is
geared towards the absolute beginner, with little or no programming
experience (But some web experience is helpful ).
The book was released ~3 months before MX, and the publisher promptly
abandoned it.
