files...long shot but does it currently allow for any column formatting?
If not we'll look to extend it and contribute changes back to the
project.

Actually, the version of ExcelQuery up at OpenXCF can both read and
write files. It accepts an action attribute, which specifies which way
to go. For example, the following.
