How do you know this?
We can all speculate on how easy or difficult something would be, but I find
it hard to reach this sort of conclusion without having access to the CF
source code.

You can do that today. You can easily combine CF and Java code. You can use
Java classes, JSPs, JSP tag libraries, and servlets from CF. You can write
some pages in CF and others in JSP, and have them share session and
application data.
