Tabbed approach is OK for some things, but inadequate for others:
You can drag and drop between windows in one action:
(click-hold drag release)
as opposed to:
menu--->copy (or CTL-C), click tab, click in window for cursor
position, menu-->paste (or CTL-V)
-- then repeat the whole thing for the next selection
This feature (D&D files or selections) is an OS X feature and most
"Good" OS X applications support it (Unfortunately, Eclipse doesn't).
In BBEdit you can do a diff on 2 windows -- it highlights and
summarizes the differences you click on the summary and it scrolls both
windows to the area in question. Then you have the1-click option to
make the window a selection like the window b selection (or vice
versa).
In BBEdit, you can setup synchronized scrolling on multiple windows --
so side-by-side- you can eyeball files.
Seriously, If you are working on an app that involves CFMs invoking
CFCs and maybe invoking other CFCs and OR Java Classes it really helps
to be able to view them all concurrently.
Once you get used to this it is very difficult to revert to a single,
tabbed window -- and your productivity really suffers.

I'd say that's a little extreme even for a hardcore Machead and it's
very different to how Windows users work (i.e., most everyone on this
list and hence in this thread!
But, its all about productivity & efficiency -- There are quite a few
people on this list (like yourself, Christian, Matt, Joe, Rob, etc.)
who have chosen to use a Mac for development, for whatever reasons.
Having done that, there is no reason that you need to limit your use of
the Mac to the way "Windows users work".
