More OT things, but handy for developers...

Matt -- I have been using windows native (not cygwin) GNU utils for a
long time for my commandline things, like sed/tail/grep/less etc
I have assembled a nice "kit" now that I carry with me between machines,
mostly from things downloaded from here:
http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net
http://www.dwam.net/docs/aintx/

I have been trying to stay away from cygwin for a long time, having had
bad experiences in the past, but I did a new install the other day, and
it is much smoother now. I actually considered using zsh as my main cli
shell, but it is getting complicated in switching between
forward/banckward slashes.

| My suggestion would be to buy a Mac and use Mac OS X for your
| everyday stuff. You can also install Linux on it and use UML
| (remember, context!) for various server related tasks. Expose
| is a pretty killer feature and let's not forget all those
| cool Unix utilities. I don't think I have ever seen a tail
| replacement for Windows that wasn't Cgywin-based. You might
| also want to check out the Tiger preview from Apple, which is
| supposed to ship in the first half of 2005. It has some
| amazing features.
|
| Oh, and BTW, thanks for the runas information, which will
| certainly save me some time in the future when I have to
| admin Windows boxes.
