Hi,

I looked for a mature and feature rich CF blogging system for months with no
success. I've looked at everything posted here and while some are beginning
to show promise, none (in my opinion) are as robust as MovableType or
WordPress. I've installed and used both MT and WP in Linux/Apache and
Windows/IIS configurations with success.

MT is a solid and mature system and offers allot of functionality right out
of the box, so to speak. The release of the version 3.1 is just around the
corner and boasts some significant improvement, but keep in mind that
Six-Apart has a reputations for over promising and under delivering. The
admin system is top shelf and very intuitive (version 3.0+) and setting up
new users and blogs is very straight forward. MT also has a huge user base
that actively work together to extend the systems functionality. However, MT
is a PITA to setup (especially so on Windows/IIS) and modifications and
extensions are sometimes painful to implement--even simple template changes
can be a challenge at times. MT's TypeKey is overrated and cumbersome and
the constant "rebuilding" of the site after every entry, comment, and
template change can take a _very_ long time. This issue may be address by
using the "Dynamic PHP publishing" of the 3.1 release, but that is still up
in the air at the moment.

On the other hand, WP was a snap to setup in both environments and literally
took 5 minutes from unzipping the download to blogging the first test entry.
The site never needs to be "rebuilt" and modifications are fairly simple
depending on the scope of your goals. Modifying the look and feel of WP is
simple and straight forward and very well documented. The admin system is
very clean and easy to use and provides built-in "quick tags" for easy post
editing. If you are not familiar with PHP, customization will require some
research and PHP version 4.1 or greater and MySQL version 3.23.23 or greater
are required for installation. As with MT, WP also boasts a huge development
and user community.

MT offers a single user/ 3 blog (same domain) license for free and several
levels of paid licenses ranging from $69.00 personal usage to $1300.00
commercial usage--depending on the number of users required. You can get
more information on MT here: http://www.movabletype.org/

WP is free and licensed under the GPL. You can get more information on WP
here: http://wordpress.org/

Both systems claim to focus on web standards (CSS and XHTML); however, in my
experience, WP does a much better job of pulling it off and making it easy.
Both systems offer extensive libraries of freely available plugins to
accommodate a wide variety of functionality.

WordPress, in my opinion, is an all around better system and investment that
MovableType, but either of these systems offer more functionality and are
more mature and stable than any CF solution I've seen to date. I'd love to
see a CF system best both of these products some day.

Subject: hosting blogs

We are thinking about hosting blogs on our server. Does anyone know of a
multiple user blog application in ColdFusion?

Thanks!
