This is probabily due to past edit-update operations.
Every time you do this, you're adding tabs at the begining or the end of the field.
- Make sure your SELECT in only on one line with no space:
<SELECT>#selectValue#</SELECT>
not
<SELECT>
#selectValue#
</SELECT>
Trim before you store in the databsse, not after.
- clean up all comments already stored in the database.
