Why don't you have the file open the actual remote doc, like instead of
http://192.168.2.1/intranet/files/hardwareorder.doc
you have
\\192.168.2.1\secureSharedFolder\intranet\files\hardwareorder.doc
So when they click on it, it will (or should) still open in the browser,
and when they save, it saves it straight to its original location.

That's a good idea Nathan, but I neglected to mention (*slaps self*) my boss would like to be able to access these files from outside the building also i.e. via the internet from home, which seems to complicate things. I guess I could have an additional *edit* link using the remote path and give that a shot. Thanks!
