Right, I should have been more clear about Tomcat, we are using it for some apps, but we might switch to JBoss. Part of my research is to check whether all of our business apps will run on Tomcat alone.
But I still have the same question. I am looking for a common application server for our apps. One of our applications doesn't support JRun but does support Tomcat. Of course, CFMX isn't officially supported on Tomcat or JBoss.
So would you chop Tomcat, JBoss, and JRun off the list because at least one of the apps isn't supported on each of them? Then I am left with Weblogic and Websphere, two very capable products, but also the most expensive of the lot. I can can deal with the cost, but if I could get by with freeware rather than shelling out potentially six figures in licensing costs for all of our server infrastructure, I have to consider the option.
