Yes, unfortunately, I don't have a lot of details as of yet.

What I do know is that we want to keep our one DB server(expensive) and slowly 
add more app servers(inexpensive) as needed to keep the burden on the DB server 
low.  App servers running MX6.1

I was initially looking at ways, Java or otherwise, to replace what the stored 
procs are currently doing and which would be the best.  Or at least the right 
direction so I can start learning/researching it.
