Ken, I've been sending large mailings using cold fusion for several years, and Cold Fusion MX handles it better than all previous versions (as suspsected). I've found that CF isn't really my problem. My problem is ISPs blocking you if they get too much mail within a short period of time. I've had 30,000+ e-mails generated and spooled with CFMX CFMAIL with no problems. It takes some time to spool to the mail server, but it also depends on your mail server and how many incoming connections it allows. In addition, if you have CFMX Enterprise, you can set how many threads the spooler uses as well (but not in CFMX Professional).
In any case, there are many facets to consider when sending large amounts of mail. I'm very curious to hear others who have done this as well and what methods they have used (legitimate bulk mailers only!). I am building a system that will need to send out 20,000 -30,000 e-mails. I am concerned with how the server and Coldfusion will handle that many e-mails at a time. SO I am considering breaking it up into smaller mailings to happen over night. Would like any feedback from anyone who has sent out this large of a mailing.
