Here's the breakdown: Pre-compiled and Sourceless Deployment: Free across all versions of ColdFusion MX 7. However, this feature is not backwards-compatible with CFMX 6.1 or earlier (you'll just get the bytecode your browser in those versions in my testing). EAR/WAR Packaging: Free across all version of CFMX 7 to *create* the EAR/WAR package. However, the ability to *deploy* the package is a Enterprise Edition feature only. Why? Simple. Enterprise Edition is the only version that runs on a full J2EE server (standalone runs on a "chopped down" version of JRun, which is to say that it only has the features of JRun necessary to run CFMX and MX-related tasks), and deploying EAR/WAR packages needs a full J2EE server to work (this is true of any J2EE server, not a JRun requirement).
