Actually, to further expound upon that, you need an *Enterprise Edition* license on the box that you will deploy the EAR/WAR file to (because EAR/WAR deployment only works on full J2EE servers -- this is not a CF-only restriction, by the way). You can *create* the EAR/WAR file using any version of MX though, including the Developer version. Also, if no serial number is entered at compile or deployment time, it is a full functional 30-day trial that then reverts to the Developer version thereafter, not an explicit timeout where you can't even run the application.
