I'm late to this thread but thought I'd share a recent solution, not CF
based, I've found for remote backups:

SyncBack:

$15 windows shareware (also a freeware version). It allows you to designate
any number of directories or entire drives (including networked drives) and
synchronize them to another location, including an ftp server. You can do a
true synch, or a mirroring one way or the other. You can then set it to run
automatically using Windows task scheduler.

It's not a true backup in that you're not compressing data into one large
file, but it does the sync'ing and mirroring very well.

I'm using it for a client to upload her 1 gig of data to an ftp server,
using Hurricane Electric hosting(unix/apache, no CFML) as they offer 5 gigs
of storage for $25/mo (www.he.net). Since she doesn't change gigabytes of
data each day, after the initial mirroring, each day's change involves only
minimal data changes to upload/mirror.

For the client to view the ftp backup data, she's not using an ftp program
per se but instead using WebDrive, which lets her view any ftp site just
like a networked drive in My Computer or Windows Explorer:

(a little pricey at $50/license but it makes the whole off-site backup
system very easy for the client).
