I've been using MySQL 4.1 for a couple of days now and all has been fine,
then I rebooted the server, and suddenly MySQL wouldn't connect.

I kept getting an incorrect file path error. I checked the executable file
path
set in the MySQL Service and it's pointing to:

"C:\Program Files\mysql\bin\mysqld-opt" --defaults-file="C:\Program
Files\mysql\my.cnf" MySQL

Now, the problem, as I see it, is that, first of all those paths are totally
wrong...

All the executables are in C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 4.1\bin ...
and there is not
a path of C:\Program Files\mysql\my.cnf on my system, either...

Also, it looks like the MySQL Service is looking for an executable called
"mysqld-opt" and
there's not one anywhere, even in the C:\Program Files\MySQL Server 4.1\bin
folder.

I tried to uninstall MySQL and reinstall, but it didn't uninstall the
service.

Trying to change the MySQL Service path doesn't seem possible, because the
path form field
is grayed out...is there somewhere I can do that? The registry?

I've checked the documentation for MySQL and can't find anything that has
helped...

Any advice would be appreciated!

Rick
