As much as looking for a solution to uploading an entire directory at once, I was attempting to understand why it wasn't possible to do so. Beyond just looking to solve a current issue, I was asking to be educated on the matter. That's why the discussion went on so long. And we discussed much more than just FTP'ing the files. I also learned that the limitations were inherent to HTML and even to the browser. Good stuff to know for the future.
